Life In Movement
2023-04-19T00:57:25-07:00
Sara Aristizabal Castaneda
saa124@sfu.ca

This piece talks about how life is in constant movement. and in that movement there is an uncertainty, there is an insecurity and a displacement of not standing on solid ground. Right now, we are experiencing a lot of change, fast change, that can leave us wondering where we stand, leave us wondering about what our future might look like with so much innovation in play. This piece conveys all these feelings of fear and uncertainty but also hope.

This is a poem chronicling my complicated relationship with my ancestors and the love/hate relationship I feel towards certain elements of my being. Excerpts from conversations I've had with my therapist have been used as the founding basis for the piece.

AI-carus
2023-04-19T01:18:02-07:00
Edward (Pin Chau) Huang
pingchautw@gmail.com

I write this poem to express my distrust for artificial intelligence because I think AI cannot represent humans in any way. Nowadays, people are confused and cannot tell human values from capitalistic and scientific values. We are like Icarus; we use technology to gain material success and escape cruel nature. However, if we cannot recognise and reflect on the difference between humans and AI, catastrophe will eventually burn us like what it did to Icarus.

Fallen Flowers
2023-04-19T01:22:45-07:00
Alex Masse
alexmasse2000@gmail.com

This is a poem that I find really fits the theme of the magazine's issue, as it's a sort of ode to the vulnerability I witness in nature--specifically, the beauty of dying flowers, which I love to rescue and preserve. It's a natural instinct for me to want to do that, and it's a kind of quality I wish more people had, especially when it came to the people around them.

Life can be hard when the person you love and share your life with keeps pushing you away. When love tastes like denial and lies we can easily lose our sense of reality, the only outcome of relationships like this is artificial love.
