Author meets critics: a set of reviews and authors' responses

Pamela Moss, Karen Falconer Al-Hindi (eds.), Feminisms in Geography: Rethinking Space, Place, and Knowledges. New York: Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2007. 270 pp.

Introduction

It was my pleasure to organize an Author Meets Critics panel for Pamela Moss and Karen Falconer Al-Hindi's (eds.) book Feminisms in Geography: Rethinking Space, Place, and Knowledges at the 2008 AAG Annual Meeting in Boston. "Author meets critic" sessions provide an opportunity for the following:
  1. to critique a recently published book that is of critical importance to feminist geography in the 21st century;
  2. discussion amongst the critics about their individual readings of the book, and the potential uses of the book in their own classes;
  3. conversation amongst the assembled persons at the session to discuss the book's place in feminist/geographical literature, and discussion about what new works need to be added to the growing literature; and
  4. to seek responses from the author(s) to the critiques of the book, and an opportunity for the author(s) to respond to questions from the audience (about the book, the literature, and the book's potential as a teaching and learning tool).

I wish to thank everyone–Anu Sabhlok (critic), Lisa Kim Davis (critic), Sara Koopman (critic), Mary Gilmartin (moderator), and Pamela Moss and Karen Falconer Al-Hindi (editors)–who were a part of this discussion at the 2008 AAG; as well, I appreciate everyone taking the time and effort to contribute to thirdspace.

Access to audio and interpretive files of the first paragraph are available on Pamela Moss' homepage (in English, French, Arabic, German and Spanish): http://web.uvic.ca/spp/people/faculty/pmoss.htm For best access, please use Windows Internet Explorer.
