Abstract

The Books for BC Babies program encourages shared reading experiences between parents and infants. This first quantitative study of a literacy bag program of this scale in North America showed a significant impact on parental behaviour in reading to their infants (more than 60% of parents began reading to their babies) and using library resources and programs as a result of a program distributing book bags containing board books, music cds and information about the importance of reading to babies.
