Taking the relevancy test: The Nelson Library goes to the polls

Abstract

98% of British Columbians access library services through taxation. There are just 49,000 people in BC who cannot freely access a library, and of those, 11,800 live in a portion of the West Kootenay region. In 2010 the Nelson Public Library went to the polls in effort to bring barrier-free library access to a greater part of the population--with mixed, but encouraging results. Libraries remain relevant in the minds of most, but education is still needed.
