Don't let the bed bugs bite: a tale of bed bug management in a public library

Abstract

Bed bugs are becoming a reality in libraries across North America, especially in urban public libraries.  Major urban areas in Canada like Toronto and Metro Vancouver have over 2000 reports of bed bug infestations according to bedbugregistry.com.  This article relates the experience of one public library in a city of over 200,000 within MetroVancouver and its experiences with finding bed bugs in the library, responding to the problem, and its ongoing plans for managing it.

Deb Thomas, Burnaby Public Library

Deb Thomas has been a public library manager for 24 years and this is her first encounter with bed bugs. She is currently Deputy Chief Librarian of the Burnaby Public Library.
