Abstract

This reflective essay responds to the question: What is ââ¬Ëfeministââ¬â¢ about one particular instructor's pedagogy and academic practice, and what are the stakes of assigning the label 'feminist' to that practice? By examining my role and experience working in the academy, both as student and instructor, I seek to contribute an understanding of feminism as an area of study that involves more than a concern primarily with gender inequality, and to draw attention to the way in which our performances in the classroom largely define the very kind of feminists that we are.
