投稿准备清单

作为提交过程的一部分，作者必须核对其投稿的是否符合下列所有项目，当不遵守这些准则，投稿将被退回.
  • Please ensure that prior to submission, you have read the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal. Submissions which do not adhere to our guidelines may not be considered for publication.
  • The submission has not been previously published, or it has been indicated where and when it has been previously published.
  • Please include a separate Microsoft Word document including your name, educational institution, program of study, and a short 3-sentence bio is uploaded IN ADDITION to files meant for review. Title your submission file as "[title of work] lyre16" and the bio file as "[firstname familyname] bio lyre16". For example, the artwork file can be named as "Self Portrait with Monkey lyre16" and the bio file as "Frida Kahlo bio lyre16". 
  • Text submissions are formatted as follows: Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, with standard indentations and paragraph format where applicable. For any emphasized text or foreign terms, please use italics rather than underlining. Excerpts of written work are welcome.
  • Your name is NOT included in the file submitted for publication review. We take no responsibility for your anonymity; that is your responsibility.

Now Accepting Submissions For The Lyre Volume 17: “FLUX”

Submissions to The Lyre Magazine’s 17th issue, themed “FLUX” are now officially open! Send us your brightest and most evocative poetry, prose, translations, photography and artwork by MONDAY, MAY 18, Y2026 to be considered for publication.

Who Can Submit?

The Lyre Magazine is committed to publishing work by SFU undergraduate writers and artists. Priority will be given to SFU undergrads, however non-undergraduate students who are not SFU students are also welcome to submit. We accept short stories, essays, travelogues, translations, poetry, short-form graphic novels, plays and monologues, and other written genres, as well as photography and visual artwork.

What to Submit?

Poetry:

  • Up to 4 pages, Times New Romans, 12pt font, double-spaced

Short Story or Prose (Excerpts welcome) 

  • Up to 6 pages, Times New Romans, 12pt font, double-spaced
  • For pieces longer than 6 pages, submit the entire work and indicate the preferred excerpt in bold*

Translations

  • Up to 4 pages
  • Submit original along with translation
  • Submissions will only be considered if The Lyre can find someone to read and translate them (if necessary)

Artwork 

  • Painting, drawing, graphic, mixed media artwork, etc.
  • Must be scanned and submitted in JPEG or PNG format

Photography

  • Must be submitted in JPEG or PNG format 
  • If submitting more than one photo, please include all files under a single submission, with the file name of each photo being the name of the piece. (Ex: “Sunray lyre 17.png”)

Graphic Story

  • Up to 2 pages, JPEG or PNG format
  • Optional: PDF version for easier viewing. Please specify in the “notes to the editor” section that this PDF has been included. Note that the layout of panels may change according to the needs of our publication. 

Essays

  • Up to 4 pages, Times New Romans, 12pt font, double-spaced
  • All citations must be done in  MLA (8th ed.) format

Screenplays/Scripts/Monologues (Excerpts welcome)

  • Up to 4 pages, Times New Romans, 12pt font, double-spaced
  • Excerpts are subject to revision**

How our Editing Process Works

As a literary journal run by and for undergraduate students, The Lyre offers a collaborative editorial process, geared towards student writers and artists. You may receive multiple rounds of editorial feedback from our review team, however, these are ultimately suggestions, and any final changes are up to your discretion.

When submitting, please note that there will be instances where the editorial team may make changes to your submission. In this case, the Editors-in-Chief will send you the proposed changes, whereupon you will be given a week to review and modify according to the suggestions.
