This paper was originally written for Dr. Ken Seigneurie’s World Literature 401 course Early Modernities Beyond the Medieval. The instructions for this paper were to triangulate among a literary text, its cultural context, and a claim from Susan Stanford Friedman’s Planetary Modernisms (a course text; included in the Works Cited).
